40 Days….

It’s almost been 40 days that I gave up one of my favorite treats, Trader Joe Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. OMG, have you tried these? When I was trying to decide what to give up for Lent, I thought about my favorite snacks…so as someone as healthy as I am, I didn’t have very many options. These chocolates were one of my favorite things to treat myself with when I got home from working an 11 hour day. Now, 40 days later I find myself not craving them & not even interested in eating them again. This could be a good thing. I am no longer craving this delicious (and addicting) treat that sometimes left me wishing I had never started to eat… it’s very hard to eat just ONE. This just helps me realize, anything is possible with a little willpower!!

Millions of men & women have jumped on the annual spring diet bandwagon, hoping to lose that winter weight before the summer. Easter candy has taken over the stores! Everywhere you turn there are chocolate eggs & bunnies in those pastel colors made with such perfection. Easter candy can send you into a sugar coma faster than Peter Cottontail can hop down the bunny trail. Question, how to avoid useless pounds? ANSWER= MAKE BETTER DECISIONS! With a few facts, you could keep that spring diet hopping towards the finish line.

~Know the facts before entering the store. Jellybeans & marshmellow eggs are a lot better than caramel filled eggs or chocolate covered peanut butter cups. Marshmellow eggs are about 130 calories a serving with no fat, where a chocolate bunny(2.5 oz.) costs you about 360 calories. Another option are the bird eggs (about 14 pieces) with just about 150 calories. Marshmallow Peeps are also another great addition to that Easter basket, with about 160 calories for 5 peeps. Remember, moderation is key. Don’t restrict yourself & not allow yourself to enjoy a few bites, but keep the numbers low & have only the suggested serving size.

~Out of site, out of mind… keep that Easter basket hidden in the closet & think of it as a treat, rather than a snack.

~Always have sugar free gum on hand in case the temptation arises to head towards the candy bowl. This will help with that burst of sweetness you are craving & can help overcome that jellybean obsession.

Remember, nothing tastes as good as skinny (and healthy) feels!
Until tomorrow <3
